fashion designer for a day

for_a_day

I know I said before I wasn’t much for shopping and fashion… read swanky shoes for details. Still, sometimes I like to draw sketches of “fashions” just for fun. I like to look at drawings of medieval and renaissance clothing and try to modernize the ideas in my sketches… so, here you have it. I know, it’s not very professional, but hey, it was fun. And, what’s life without a little fun, anyway? It’s NOT a jacket and dress, it’s supposed to be a one-piece. (Thanks, Hana for pointing out that it looked like a jacket).

I’ve been reading and doing The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron. I was serious when I said that I was trying to get back on a creative track. I’m just finishing week 2 (of 12), but the book and it’s exercises have been good for me so far. It contains some amazing insights. But, it IS work - it is like a class to help anyone (not just artists) unblock their creativity. One of the exercises is to write down several “imaginary lives” and do something related to one of them - one of mine? Fashion designer — although I don’t think I’d ever really want to do that for a living - too stressful!

Creativity Question:
What is one of your imaginary lives? Have you ever tried it?

it looks nice! reminds me of a dress one would see in the movie ‘pride and prejudice’. one of my imaginary lives would be a horse trainer on a fancy farm in lexington. and no, i’ve never tried it. :)

That book sounds really fantastic! How do you find stuff like that? I don’t mean literally, but I mean how do you decide to try it? Just curious. Anyway one of my imaginary lives would be a mother of 6 or a web-designer and I’ve dabbled in both. hee hee. Was never quite blessed with six kids…but I could keep on believing that someday I’ll be a world famous web-designer and digital scrapbooking artist extraordinaire! Something that I’ve never tried that I would love to do? It would have to be a set designer…oh my word now there is a job I could really get into!

Rich bought the book a while back. He recommended it to me (I don’t know how far he got). It has been sitting between my nightstand and my bed collecting dust for a couple of years. I’d been wanting to read it for a while (I didn’t realize it was like a 12-week course). I don’t even know why I finally picked it up a few weeks ago, but when I started reading, I knew I needed to try it.

Set design is fun, but so much work! And, I’ve only done it on a really small scale. I’ve never had enough budget to do anything fabulous.
