geek is good
yay, yay! My wonderful resident tech support fixed my blog (and in about 10 minutes, too)! Hopefully, everyone that was having problems commenting before can now do so. It’s working better for me, too. I no longer have to use IE to comment on my own blog.
My new business entity is now official - the site isn’t up and running yet, and I still have a lot to do. But, at least most of the paperwork is done. It’s a step in the right direction, anyway. I’ll post a link when I get something worth looking at on the site. Here’s a little sneak peek at some of the designs I’ve been working on.

This weeks question: When you are involved in something creative, does the rest of your day seem to flow better?
My take: I always knew I liked to make art, but I never realized how happy it makes me until I recently started a collaborative project with a friend which 1- got me to actually work on an art project, and 2- enabled me to stretch myself a little artistically (shadow puppets aren’t something I’ve ever done before). I noticed that my mood and patience level at home were instantly improved - it took me by surprise! Even when I only worked on the project a couple hours a week, the whole week seemed so much better. So I’m thinking, hey, I need to uncork my creativity bottle a little more often. Yeah, I could live with that.

That looks great Amy. It sounds like everything is going really well for you! Congratulations!

your layouts are really nice!! even a pink one huh? I think they all look really good. Thanks for the technical support
And I must be creative ADD because I HAVE to work on something every single day. Whether its just rearranging things in my house to look better, or improving a frame for my girlies room. Sometime projects take my whole day
but I usually try to only do that if I’m getting paid for it.

Yep - I didn’t really “want” to do it pink, but my friend wanted pink, what can I say? I’ll probably change out the colors on that one before I put on the website.
When my kids were very little (3 kids at the time), I got to where I didn’t ever really take any time for me - all my time was taken with them and other responsibilities. I started to feel kind of dead inside. After a while, I figured it out, and have since been working my way to taking more time for creativity. It doesn’t much matter what it is (painting a room, sewing, making a birthday cake special, designing stuff or whatever - art is my favorite) I just feel a lot better when I take a little time to do something I love.

Count me in! I am a complete nag when I don’t have some “Me” time, and the only time I really feel counts as such is time spent creating. I’m currently sewing a baby quilt and crib set for my youngest sister, and knitting a sweater for my husband. That’s twice the satisfaction. It’s nice to mix it up, both mentally and creatively, the projects look nicer and feel more completed when they’re not rushed (also, I feel more whole).
These samples of yours are adorable in a funky, modern, right up my alley way. I don’t think you should shed the pink for your web site, I think it will appeal to a wider audience if you keep it. I’m not normally a pink girl, but I think this looks nice. Keep it up, can’t wait to see more.

Yay, Amy! I’m finally able to comment on your blog! I’ve been reading and watching, though. :o) (BTW - I love the wire art!)
Just my two cents, since I’m slightly partial to the pink announcement: I absolutely LOVE the way it turned out, and was so proud and pleased to send it out. It may not have been the one you would’ve chosen of the many that you showed me, but it was MY favorite by far. I love pink/brown and blue/brown together right now, and pink seemed fitting for a baby girl announcement. A little traditional mixed with a little funky. I think there is definitely something to be said for mixing your talent, style and creativity with someone else’s tastes to come up with the perfect result for them.
I totally don’t mind if you change up the colors for your website, but I hope you show both of them in case it appeals to others. I still love it!

Hey, Deanna,
You can thank Rich for fixing it for me. What would I do without him?
I really wasn’t trying to bag on pink. It’s just not usually my first choice - I got so much pink stuff for Hana when she was a baby - I finally just had to say “oh well”. I used to hate pink, but I’m okay with it now.
The reason I didn’t want to do a LOT of pink is because that’s what everyone else does for babies and I don’t want my designs to be “typical”. But, I probably will do a few different color schemes for each design, including some pink ones, since that’s probably what a lot of mama’s will want to buy.
BTW, I am really glad you like the announcements. It feels so great as a designer to make someone happy.

I am so excited for you! I know your business has been a long time coming. I can’t wait to see your website. I agree with Deanna…the wire art is so awesome! I loved them at our Derby Party this year. You are so creative. I am so clueless about all of it. I can only comment whether I think something is cute or not.

Yeah! You fixed your blog. I hate not being able to comment on people’s ‘thoughts’. Anyway, love the announcements. You are such an awesome designer. And what’s this about doing shadow puppets? I’m curious to see what you have done, so you’ll have to post some pics.
