a little dressing on the side
Thursday, November 1st, 2007I know, I know, it’s been too long AGAIN since I posted. Life gets in the way… but that’s ok, because the blog is about life, not the other way around.
I’ve been busy sewing. Even though it was crazy because I waited too long, and so was in a rush as usual, it was actually quite nice to spend some time away from the computer doing something that I like, but that I don’t do often.
Photos of two of the costumes (click to enlarge) - H. as a masquerader, and me as a fairy (I think that’s one I never did as a kid, so why not?). I also made two black hooded cloaks for my two older boys. BTW, I had a better ideas for the fairy (notice the pointed ears), but was only able to finish the bodice - so, yes, I paired a renaissance bodice with a medieval dress made several years ago - but hey, it works for me. Ok, so tripping over the 9 yards of fabric wasn’t fun, but being a fairy for the evening was. And, I’m happy the bodice turned out pretty good for my first try on one of those.
We made the masquerade mask out of gold mat board I had laying around, sequins, beads and a bamboo skewer. After spending all that money on the fabric, we had to go budget-friendly for the mask. I sometimes go a little overboard with the costumes. It’s not Halloween that I like so much, it’s dressing up - I admit it. It’s just plain fun.
