hi, wire
Here it is - the sculpture is done. Yes, it’s another horse - I’m not sure why I made a horse. Maybe because we’re getting close to Derby time out here in KY (which is a BIG deal out here). I wanted to see if I could make another horse in a different way than before. This one definitely took a lot longer.
I am donating this horse to our Young Women group (Hana’s group) for their camp fund-raiser auction and chili cook-off. Hopefully, it will sell.
Creativity Question: Do you gravitate toward a particular theme in your creative pursuits - does it evolve and change as you go along, or do you stay with the same theme? I’ve noticed certain themes in my work, but my work tends to continually evolve… nature is one theme that really attracts me, but I also like to dabble in other things. I can’t really see myself sticking with one idea forever because as I grow and change over time, so does my art.

Are you familiar with the art of Deborah Butterfield at all? She is ALL about horses and does some truly amazing and inspiring sculptures with found objects all about horses. She’s one of the artists we’ve taught this year in Art Literacy at my sons’ school (there are no art teachers here…Art Lit is the volunteer parent-run program in place of a true art program)… Anyway, if you haven’t seen any of her stuff, you really should with all the horse stuff you’ve done. This one you’ve done here especially reminds me of her stuff.
In answer to your question…I guess I’m not an artist who creates art for art’s sake…I usually do it in response to a need, as in I need to do a Christmas card, I need to draw a portrait, I need to illustrate this or that…so the subject is whatever it “needs” to be. Hmm, makes me think I should just do some art “for the fun of it” and see what happens.

Very cool sculpture. I’m still kickin’, but currently in over my head. I’ll write *soon*.

I love your horse. I would buy it. They do alot of work in wire here and I’ve started to work with it (a little), but nothing as good/interesting as your horse. I always wanted to make a wire tree-one big enough to hang easter eggs on. I challenge you. With your motivation (I have none) you’ll probably have it done in a day. I’ll try to find pictures of the stuff they make here to share with you.

I love your wire horse! I sure have been thinking about everyone in KY lately with Derby and all. I have one of your horses from last year in my living room. I miss you!

I love your horses. This one seems to be in motion. Actually a lot of your work that I can recall seems to be in motion. I isn’t in a hurry though, just continual movement. Hmm…
I seem to gravitate to people. I am a people watcher and love watching the complexities of their personalities.
I am actually going to start a photo blog pretty soon about a portfolio I am working on.
This one is actually posed however. I often like to do things that are spontaneous, photojournalism type things, but recently I decided to do something a little different.
I will probably put it up next week. I need to get some models though. So when I get it up, please let all your friends here in AZ to take a look. Actually, if someone paid my way, I would go anywhere to shoot.

Oohh, one more comment. I would love to see that horse in like an tarnished copper or bronze. I love it the way it is, but that is just a thought.

I totally would have bought that if I was in the ward. Before I leave KY, I will convince you to make one for me.

It is amazing how you’ve taken that medium of hard wire and made it flow and move, like wind whippy through his mane. Gorgeous!
